Router UPS using TP5100 version 2

Introduction

This project is improved version of the router ups which I published last year. In this project I am using TP5100 module along with battery protection board, DC-DC boost module and a capacity of 2 ampere current. This is more refined project from the previous one and also with high current capacity to work with all latest router which consumes more power.

What you need

  1. Lithium Iron 18650 3.7 v rechargeable battery – 2 nos
  2. 2S 10A 18650 7.4V-8.4V Lithium Battery Protection Board
  3. TP5100 4.2v and 8.4v Dual One/Two Battery Protection Board
  4. XL6009 DC- DC Adjustable Step UP Boost Power Converter Module
  5. 1N5822 Schottky diode – 2
  6. DC Voltmeter
  7. Dc Power Connector and DC Power jack
  8. A suitable case and some connecting wires
  9. Lot of patience

Working

Schematic diagram of the router ups is self explanatory. The 2 18650 battery are connected in series to have 7.4 volt and they are connected to 2BMS board. The 12V input power from the DC adapter is connected to the input terminal of the TP5100 module through a dc jack. B+/- terminal of the TP5100 charging module is connected to the battery pack. The boost converter XL6009 Out+ terminal is connected to the positive terminal of the output DC Jack through a Schottky diode ( 1N5822 ) and the Out- terminal is connected directly to the negative terminal of the DC jack. Voltmeter is connected to output terminal after the 1N5822 terminal so that voltage reading can be checked even when supply voltage is available. The 2 diode is used to prevent reverse flow of current.

The reason for selecting schottky diode is that have a lower forward voltage drop than the general purpose diode. You can replace it with general purpose diode. Total backup time of the UPS is around 1 hour for an average router.
